Pumpkin Pie Recipe: Taste The Deliciousness Of This American Veggie

Pumpkin – This American born orange veggie is rich in beta-carotene, antioxidants and low in calories. Everyone, fall for the taste of the dishes prepared with it. Did you know that today (October 26) is celebrated as 'National Pumpkin Day' in America? On this special day, we are presenting a mouth-watering recipe 'Pumpkin Pie'.

Ingredients List For Crust

  • Refined flour – 1½ cups

  • Sugar – 1 tbsp

  • Salt – ½ tsp

  • Baking soda – 1/8 tspPumpkin Pie

  • Unsalted butter – ½ cup

  • Water for dough

Ingredients List For Filling

  • Pumpkin Paste – 2 cups

  • Refined flour – 2 tbsp

  • Condensed milk – 1 cup

  • Eggs – 2

  • Granulated sugar – ½ cup

  • Brown sugar – ½ cup

  • Ginger powder – 1 tsp

  • Cinnamon powder – 1 tsp

  • Nutmeg powder – ½ tsp

  • Cloves powder – ¼ tsp

  • Black pepper powder – ¼ tsp

  • Salt to taste

Method To Prepare Crust

  1. Combine all the 'Crust Ingredients' to get a soft dough. Cover and let it aside for an hour (You can refrigerate it also). Take it from the fridge and knead the dough thoroughly.

  2. Roll the dough using rolling pin with ½ inch thickness.

  3. Preheat the oven at 190o C. Grease the pie pan and carefully place the rolled dough and remove the extras.

  4. Again refrigerate the pie pan for 15-20 minutes. Then bake it at 190o C for 40-45 minutes. Remove from oven and let it cool.

Method To Prepare Pumpkin Pie

  • Mix all the 'Filling Ingredients' in a big bowl until a lump-free mixture is formed. Pour the pumpkin mixture over baked crust and let it bake at 160o C for 50-60 minutes.

  • Check the edges of the crust in adjacent timings while baking, if it turns dark, then fold the crust edges with aluminium foil. Remove from the oven and let it cool for sometime.

Note: one can skip the eggs to make it vegan pie.
